Why ThreeShield Exists

ThreeShield started from a frustration many security professionals share: the tools available to small and medium businesses were either too basic to protect them or too complex and expensive to use.

That frustration came from real experience. Our founder, Chris Nowell, established the computer-assisted audit techniques programs at United Technologies Corporation (its businesses are now part of RTX/Raytheon and Lockheed Martin) and at the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta, and wrote the Windows and Unix security analyzers that Ernst & Young, Deloitte, KPMG, NASA, Pratt & Whitney, and Sikorsky went on to license. Through the Auditor General's office, he assessed the information security of nearly every Government of Alberta entity. Those same analyzers were later offered through ThreeShield and are now built into Lavawall®. We know what enterprise-grade security looks like, and we know most small and mid-sized organizations are getting a pale imitation at best.

So we built Lavawall®, the platform we wished existed. It is multi-tenant and multi-framework, and it can patch the 7,400+ applications that industry-standard RMMs miss (including the Plex Media Server installation that ultimately contributed to the LastPass breach). It monitors endpoints, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, AWS, and the compliance posture of the entire organization at the same time.

ThreeShield provides the human layer: CISSP/CISA-certified expertise, formal audit execution, and Tier 3 support that businesses and MSPs can rely on when they need more than software.

We're a Canadian federal corporation, registered in Alberta, operating to strict social and environmental standards. We reinvest nearly all of our pre-compensation income back into our people and our community, because we believe the companies that look after their team also look after their clients.

The gold standard of cybersecurity credentials. Awarded by (ISC)² after rigorous examination and verified professional experience. ThreeShield maintains active CISSP certification, which requires ongoing professional development and adherence to a strict code of ethics.

CISA

Certified Information Systems Auditor

The premier credential for information systems auditing. ISACA awards it after examination, verified experience, and a commitment to professional standards. It is essential for the governance and compliance audits ThreeShield delivers.

Expert Witness: Court of King's Bench (Alberta)

Our founder, Chris Nowell, serves as an expert witness for law firms in Alberta through ThreeShield, in matters of information security and cybercrime before the Court of King's Bench of Alberta. The role calls for demonstrated expertise and the ability to present findings clearly and impartially.
